Northbrook Bluehawks Welcome Sophie Skarzynski!

NORTHBROOK, IL. (For immediate release) The Northbrook Bluehawks have hired former Division I National Champion Sophie Skarzynski, Hockey Director Cody Murphy announced today. Skarzynski will join the Bluehawks staff as an assistant coach for the Peewee AA Spring team.

Sophie, a Chicago area native, started playing locally at Wilmette before moving on to the AAA ranks playing for the Chicago Young Americans and finishing with the Chicago Mission. Sophie spent her youth playing with the boys up until entering high school. During her time with the U19 Girls Mission, she captained her team to a USA Hockey National Championship. During her career, she earned the honor of being selected to play for Team USA U18 where she competed in the World Championships in 2014 in Budapest, Hungary (Silver) and in 2015 in Buffalo, New York winning a gold metal. From 2015 to 2019, Sophie played Division I at the University of Minnesota. In her four years, she was a part of and contributed to multiple championship seasons which included winning an NCAA D1 National Championship in 2016, 4 National NCAA title appearances, multiple WCHA Tournament and Conference Championships and an NCAA Runner up in 2017, 2018, and 2019. Sophie currently resides in Chicago and works at a tech start up in the west loop. In her free time she coaches private lessons to hockey players on and off the ice.
